Since the Severance, no factory has been able to successfully recreate a semi-conductor on Raana, as Ikaanos does not have a well enough developed industrial base to support the required technologies. Hence people have had to rely on trying to keep the electronic devices delivered from Earth, running. Today, of the hundreds of thousands of computers which existed two centuries ago, only a scant thousand remain.

House Teresto specialises in this line of work, maintaining and fixing antique equipment, reverse-engineering devices to figure out how they work, and using cunning methods (which they keep secret) to extract delicate usable components from circuitry ("C-boards") scavenged from Ikaanos' decaying infrastructure.

Thanks to House Teresto, Ikaanos still has digital storage capabilities, which enables The Grid, and the preservation of complex algorithms.
