The Republic of Ikaanos is the largest governing power on Raana, encompassing all human-inhabited regions - either governed directly by the Senate or bound to it through vassalage.

"Ikaanos proper", formally known as The Colony of Ikaanos or The Dominion of Ikaanos, encompasses Ikaanos City, The Red River Basin, The Great Barony of Bellemme, The Barony of Elidir, Feeder's Canyon and the Lesano plains.

Government

The Chancellor of the Republic holds ultimate power but allows most internal affairs to be handled by The Senate.

Control over the independent-minded ground-dwellers of Ikaanos Colony is reinforced by eight relatively new military forts controlled directly by the feared Space Marines - their presence providing a daily reminder of who is in control.

All noblemen, all factions and all human settlements on Raana are officially declared as subjects of the Republic, expected to pay proper taxes in support of "saving and reinforcing the last bastion of humanity".

This is the second Republic in Ikaanos' history, hence is formally known as "The Second Republic". Unlike the first Republic, this one does not allow citizens to vote for their representatives; it is an an oligarchy, controlled by Great Houses, powerful businesses, and religious groups.
