The Maiden Islands

About 400 miles beyond the coast of Ikaanos lies the Maiden Islands - comprised of three major landmasses and thousands of lesser isles that form an archipelago in the shape of a crescent moon.

About 30 years ago, two boatloads of fugitive slaves and freebooters formed an outpost in the heart of this protected half-atoll with just a handful of tools and extremely primitive equipment. The endeavor was successful as this colony swiftly expanded into a relatively small metropolis that flourished off the rich foliage and fertile lands surrounding it.

Today, the Maiden Islands are the dream of many slaves who desire a fresh start in life. But getting there is tough and exceedingly hazardous, not least because any fugitive attempting to reach here will have to navigate the unscrupulous people-smugglers who’ll take both their ticket money and the profit from selling them back to their former master.
