The Senate

The Senate is the governing body of the Republic comprised of Ikaanos colony and its orbiting Mastersphere. They appoint appoint a Mayor to manage the colony on the ground while they spend their days idling in decadent luxury on the 5,000 capacity space station. And in practice it is the The Chancellor who holds the most power; he is High Commander of the Mastersphere and he controls the Ikaanian Marine Corps ("space marines"). The Senate used to be called The Council until Chancellor Mordecai shook things up about 50 years ago in order to cement his power.
