Nobility

Although Ikaanos is a republic, it still maintains a formal noble class that traces its origins back to the brief monarchic regimes that followed the Severance. Some families have also risen into the nobility over time, earning their place through influence, wealth or gradual acceptance.

Lower nobility

Lower nobility families

• Bianchi: A large family that dabbles in everything from entertainment (restaurants) to estates. Though they all bear the Bianchi name, the House itself is loosely structured, with its branches operating largely independently.
  • Founder: Alessandro Bianchi (2250s).
• Boulay: A shrouded house that no longer holds any titles or estates.
  • Founder: Jonas Boulay (2300s).
• Hasan: A small house ruled by Amir Hasan. Based in Emerald City.
  • Founder: Khalid Hasan (2310).
• Kessarin: A small merchant house. Based in Crystal Heights and The Docks.
  • Founder: Valian Kessarin (2302).
• Mali: A shrouded house that no longer holds any titles or estates.
  • Founder: Tenegra Mali (2300s).
• Pásztor: A shrouded house occupying a ruined castle in Feeder's Canyon.
  • Founder: Gergely Pásztor (2330).
• Valcoryn: A small great house. Main estate can be found in North Crow's End.
  • Founder: Sebastian Valcoryn (2332).

High nobility families

• Adler: The Adlers rose to fame during the dark ages when Mordecai Adler, today The Great Chancellor of Ikaanos, quickly climbed the ranks of the republic government. The Adler House is composed of Mordecai's direct descendants, who inherited not only his name but also his unconventional naming tradition. In a personal departure from aristocratic custom, he named his children after ancient United States states, a practice that has since become a defining and somewhat eccentric hallmark of the family line.

• Cyker: One of Ikaanos' most powerful families. House Cyker is de facto the most influential industrial house in the republic, its reach extending far beyond traditional manufacturing, delving into infrastructure, logistics and high-tech.
  • Founder: Cassian Cyker (2300).
• Teresto: One of Ikaanos' most powerful houses, House Teresto operates primarily in the field of advanced technology and applied research. Unlike the traditional Great Houses, Teresto does not formally claim noble status, instead presenting itself as a modern corporate entity, focusing on merit, innovation and industrial efficiency. Many "families" belong to House Teresto and very few people actually carry the ancestral name of Teresto today.
  • Founder: Tomas Barian (2310).
• Lancour: A family that has generated many memorable statesmen. Primarily lives in Emerald City. Owns a factory in New Paris.
  • Founder: Dorian Lancour (2304).
• Bellemme: A powerful estate holder in the central parts of the republic. Owns approximately 3,000 square kilometers (1.158 sq miles) of land.
  • Founder: Geoffrey (2230).
• Kymanto: A syndicate consisting of several different families. Kymanto doesn't count themselves as part of any noble class but sway the same influence as most of the other great houses of Ikaanos. Nobody alive today carry the Kymanto name, which derivates from one of the founding pre-Severance corporations. That corporation, and its name, were of Lithuanian origin.
