If an NPC is Incapacitated in Combat and then brought round without the MC using a Doctor's Kit, they will lose one or more points from one or more of their Attributes: Strength, Dexterity and/or Beauty. These lost points can be regained through joint Training sessions with the MC, or by treatments at the Doctor's Hall.
If the MC is Incapacitated in combat he will likewise lose one or more points from a random Attribute: Strength, Dexterity and/or Beauty. NPCs can not use a Doctor's Kit on the MC to prevent this happening. These lost points can be regained through Training sessions or through other means which increase Attributes, such as the Doctor's Hall.
On Grimdark mode, stat losses to the MC and NPCs resulting from Incapacitation Injuries are increased - e.g. from 2 points to 5 points per incapacitating injury.
Also, in future releases such wounds may be accompanied by permanent reductions to the respective Attribute caps, to reflect permanent disability - maybe if also playing Ironman mode. Expensive treatments at the Doctor's Hall may be able to rectify such disabilities though.
