Background[edit | edit source]

Michelle didn’t get an easy start. Her parents left her in the care of an elderly couple from North Whitehaven when she was only four years old. The couple didn’t abuse her in any way, but showed very little interest in the girl's emotional life. When Michelle came of age, she voluntarily entered into an agreement with the elderman James Cyker. He was to pay for her tutorage at Whitehaven Academy, including room and board. The girl should then enter into his "service" after a three-year education, working as a scribe and household servant. Unfortunately, James Cyker passed away and all his possessions ended up on auction, including Michelle's contract.

But Michelle's new life as a slave was deplorable and she had to live under conditions that were totally unacceptable for the still high-spirited girl. Michelle ran away after spending only a couple of weeks with her new master, Donbass Cooney. But things didn't get better. After being rejected from her old friends and a last plead to the university professors, the girl finally ended up as an enslaved worker at a laundry shop in Whitehaven.
