Fusion power

In the late 21st Century, the genius Daniel Esterhazy saved Earth from CO2 poisoning by developing cost-effective fusion power, through his insights into the quantum realm. Within 20 years, humanity had robust, mass-produced, units the size of a fridge, capable of powering an entire factory.
Modular reactors were transported from Earth in the 23rd century to get their colony on Raana up and running - high tech wonders that could run indefinitely if regularly supplied with fuel. By the time of the Severance, Ikaanos had over 400 of these in assorted sizes. But it never came close to developing the diverse industrial base required to manufacture the technology itself. Today, some of these 200 year old units still provide the electricity which powers Ikaanos's technology. But only 17 units remain functional.
The two most important are the large 1.1GW reactors in Whitehaven and Reiken in Ikaanos City, which provide power to almost 90% of the Ikaanos metropolitan area. Only six are found outside the walls: in Kingsport, Lake City, New Tokyo, and three others in fortresses along the North Road. There were originally five of the largest reactors but three have been lost to malfunctions, or violence during the troublesome years after The Severance.
- The Camorrah plant: Lies in Whitehaven. Maintained directly by the Mastersphere.
- The Reiken plant: Lies inside Fort Hinata. Maintained and guarded directly by the Mastersphere and the Space Marine Corps.
For items requiring power which can't be plugged into the electricity mains connected to a fusion plant, or lying outside the reach of these power grids, small fusion-powered "batteries" were also sent from Earth in large numbers: ENERGY CELLS. A stock of these is held on the Mastersphere, and rationed out to certified vendors on Emerald Island.
