USS Dorothea

The first colony ship sent to Raana from Earth, over 350 years ago in the year 2130, following Raana's discovery in 2116 and the first scientific expedition there in 2120. The Dorothea carried a handpicked group of 366 young people, entrusted with establishing an outpost capable of accommodating larger groups over the next decade. However after arriving through the Celassi Stargate, it crashed on entering the planet's atmosphere, near the Beryll Mountain range not far from modern Ikaanos City. Most of the colonists did survive the crash, but ship's primary, secondary, and backup deep space transmitters were irreparably damaged, so communication with Earth was lost.

Earth assumed the colonists were dead, and, as they had no idea what had happened, put further colonization attempts on pause. This pause ended up lasting a century though, as the Earth and it colonies were hit by major setbacks now referred to as "the Great Turmoil" and the "Sino-Oceanic Collapse", which put exploration and expansion on the back burner until things had recovered.

The colonists managed to survive, and thrive, alone on Raana. However without logistical support from Earth the small group could not maintain its starting level of technology, so reverted to a mode of living reminiscent of Earth pre-Industrial Revolution. And their culture started changing to suit these new conditions, harking back in many ways to humanity's past.

When the second wave of colonists from Earth arrived on four much larger ships in 2230-2237, the initial settlers were happy with their new way of life and their independence, and most did not integrate with the newcomers, who now refer to them as "First Wavers" or "Tribalists".
