"The only thing seperating us humans from the Beryll Monkeys is the continued supply of electric fusion power. Those old machine's been running since three years before The Severance. They contain the latest Esterhazy technology - the famous FrIII Fusion Core - and was brought in from Earth right on time, 900 days before the stargate shut us off from our home."

Professor Wolf; notes from lecture held in 2489.

Fusion plants provide the electricity which powers Ikaanos's technology, but these lie outside its current capability to build. Modular reactors were transported from Earth in the 23rd century to get the colony up and running - high tech wonders that could run indefinitely if regularly supplied with fuel. By the time of the Severance, Ikaanos had over 400 of these in assorted sizes. Today, only 17 remain.

The two most important are the large 1.1GW reactors in Whitehaven and Reiken in Ikaanos City, which provide power to almost 90% of the Ikaanos metropolitan area. Only six are found outside the walls: in Kingsport, Lake City, New Tokyo, and three others in fortresses along the North Road. There were originally five of the largest reactors but three have been lost to malfunctions, or violence during the troublesome years after The Severance.

For items requiring power which can't be plugged into the electricity mains connected to a fusion plant, or lying outside the reach of these power grids, small fusion-powered "batteries" were also sent from Earth in large numbers: ENERGY CELLS. A stock of these is held on the Mastersphere, and rationed out to certified vendors on Emerald Island.
