The Orient

Overview

Located in the Palace District, The Orient is Emerald City's most esteemed party palace, at least for the older generations. The Victorian-inspired interior and well-dressed waitresses make it too "uncool" for the emkids, whose absence ensures a calm and discussion-friendly environment.

You can visit the bar for a drink, or place yourself with your followers at a dinner table, or go downstairs to enjoy the evening show (WIP). Unlike The Golden Dragon, there is no dress code.

Opening Hours

The Orient is open 24 hours a day. But evening entertainments are from 8pm to 10pm (when available).

Dinner Table

When seated for dinner here, the following three dishes and four wines are available:

• Trendor ribs ($150): "Classic pork, saturated in spices and a couple of ounces of Chanuga honey."
• House's fawnfish ($140): "A large fawnfish filled with spices and grilled vegetables. On the side is a mix of potatoes and rice, served with a cold garlic sauce."
• The Orient ($120): "A classic vegetarian bowl mix with halloumi, falafel and several different cold crème sauces. Accompanied by a wide range of vegetables and salads, making the plate almost look like a miniature jungle."
• Bottle of The House ($150): "A mild red that will leave plenty of space for the flavors of the food to stimulate your tastebuds."
• Côtes-du-rouge ($400): "A classic; The Orient only serves Côtes-du-Rouge of vintages 2477 and 2479, said to be the best years still on the market."
• Lembar wine ($700): "... almost outmatches your main course, as the rich taste of Prometheus berries fill your world each time you take a new mouthful."
• Volkmar's Red ($2,500): "This unbeatable beverage will fill your tastebuds with a pre-severance palette of muskiness, Earthly berries, and a strong alcoholic punch."

Dining at this prestigious establishment will gain you Palace Rating points, should increase the Affection of your followers, may also gain them Prestige, and may get you all drunk. Unique dialogs are also unlocked by dining here, which depend upon who you have brought with you.

The bottles and the dishes are for sharing, so you will for instance only be able to order one course and two bottles maximum if dining alone. You can order multiples of each dish and each bottle if you wish. The more you spend, the more Palace Rating your lavish display of wealth and good taste will gain you as you are noticed by the other noble diners here: from +5 to +75 points is the approximate possible range.

Your Followers will gain +3 Affection towards you if they get adequately stuffed from the dining; the wine makes no difference here. They will each also gain +1 Prestige (cap: 15) if you spend enough on the meal to gain you 40+ Palace Rating points, as they come to the attention of Ikaanos' upper classes.

The extent to which you and your followers get drunk will depend on how many bottles of wine you buy and how many of you there are drinking these; Ansel counts as three people here, drinking enough of it himself to keep others sober (who said he wasn't useful?)

The Bar

The Orient's bar charges a huge mark-up. However there are side benefits to drinking there which might make this worthwhile: a chance to socialize with the upper echelons of Ikaanan society, and maybe gain esteem in their eyes (in the form of Palace Rating points). And also the possibility of learning things from interesting people (Science and Academics skill increases).

Buying a drink and drinking it takes no time. But each drink affords an opportunity to socialize with the Orient's clientele, which will take 18 minutes if chosen. Each socialize attempt makes a Charisma-based check, which if successful will gain you +1, +2 or +5 Palace Rating points. However, each drink has a chance of making you increasingly drunk, and drunkenness will progressively reduce your success chance. Your success chance is also affected by your Influence and by your Arena fame. And each type of drink affects your chance too; more expensive drinks tend to boost it.

The discussions you have socializing when drinking whiskey or house wine also have a decent chance of increasing your Science or Academics skills respectively, regardless of whether you make the socialize check.

The Show (WIP)

Each night's show starts at 8 pm and lasts approximately two hours. But as of now the show is WIP, so the MC can not enjoy it.
