Background
Mai-Lynn's father, who was a well-known florist residing in the district of Raikan, gave the girl a peaceful upbringing in a secluded house surrounded by Japanese gardens. She learned at an early to tend to a home, manage a garden and act as a good hostess - a title Mai-Lynn had to take on after mother went out on an Arkukima - a post-severance phenomenon of pilgrimage, common among the Japanese people of Ikaanos.
The absence of her mother, and her father's mounting problems with a Raikan street gang, eventually impoverished the father-daughter duo, forcing Mai-Lynn into servitude. She worked her first years as a domestic servant, but chose to sign a slave contract in order to save her father's house from becoming auctioned off due to his spiraling debts.

Special Ability
Mai-Lynn has the unique trait "Green Thumb" (see above). She has a natural talent for growing edibles and herbs. She boosts Rations yield by 2 per day as long as she is assigned as your Gardener, regardless of the Garden's level. She also uses Garden Tools more effectively, so grants an additional 1 Ration per day if your Garden has been upgraded to include Tools.

Quest
Mai-Lynn has a personal quest "My Beloved Father", which can be unlocked if you ask about her Background, if your Affection is Amiable+. It is moderately long, comprising several parts, with the possibility of some tough fights. Mai-Lynn will remain Depressed until it is completed. It provides the opportunity of opening up Toshi Gardens in Raikan as an investable location and a source of Imperial Flowers and Raikan Gale.

Requirements: Affection Amiable+
Details: Mae-Lynn reveals that the source of her depression is the fall of her father Toshi Oshiro's business in Raikan, Toshi Gardens, due to extortion and fraud by the Black Scorpion gang, Hunt Laboratories, and others. Mr Oshiro is a talented gardener and horticulturalist, but a naïve businessman. Mai-Lynn selling herself into slavery didn't raise enough money to save him from destitution, and he even managed to get swindled out of the money he gathered to buy her back. She asks you to help re-start her father's business and restore her family name - and promises that you could profit greatly from being her father's business partner.
A. If you visit Mr Oshiro with Mai-Lynn he will first ask you to recover the seeds and spores of some of the ornamental and medicinal plants he used to grow, from Hunt Laboratories who swindled him out of them. (400 Ikoria seeds, 50 Danugah spore prints, and 400 Letric seeds.) You can use cash, influence, or stealth - the latter involving the risk of a couple of fights. Mai-Lynn must come with you on this quest, in order to recognise the correct items amongst Hunt Labs' large collections.
B. If presenting these botanical samples to Mr Oshiro, he will then ask you to find some Baneclaw Dung, which alone provides the special nutrients they need to thrive. This dung can be harvested from Silfren Woods beyond Kahill Outpost, up the Red River basin, accessed by boat from Darkmere. Baneclaw are very dangerous however; charucks are their only natural enemy. You can try using stealth, might, or maybe money. Moderate stealth skill can suffice; light armor and a small group increase your chance of success, but also increase your chance of dying if you fail. Going in fighting can work - but is killing the source of the substance you seek sensible if you seek a sustained supply? Alternatively, if you are lucky, you might be able to find some dung for sale by merchants at Kahill Outpost - but they are usually seeking to buy the substance, rather than selling it. Mr Oshiro asks that you do NOT take Mai-lynn with you on this part of the quest.
Results:
- Completion will open up Toshi Gardens as an investable location, where you can drink refreshing Tea.
- Investments here can be expensive but will generate significant cash - half of which will be taken by the Black Scorpion gang unless you remove them.
- It can also provide 8 units of Imperial Flowers and 5 units of Raikan Gale each week, if the Herb House is developed sufficiently to produce these.
- It also provides Mae-Lynn with a place to work IF you free her from slavery AND release her from your Household. She will then increase Toshi Gardens' income significantly, and will remain recruitable there for free at any time. (Each time you release her after taking her back into your Household she will lose 5 Happiness, so cheer her up when she is with you!)
