Gambling is a skill possessed by the MC, an activity you can pursue at a variety of establishments throughout the game world (low-stakes Poker at Furry's, high-stakes Poker at The Dockgrave, Daiku at Shunsuke's, whilst Carousing at Divine Juices, and at your own Tavern if you build one), and also something which might crop up as a way of dealing with certain Quests (e.g. trying to win Adrienne from The Mad Preacher).
The activity can be a good way of making a lot of money, once you have become good at it (i.e. achieved a high Skill level) - but you might have to lose a lot of money on your way to becoming skilful enough to start making reliable gains.
Gambling is also a way to raise your Gambling skill, and sometimes your Willpower too.
