Overview
Myrdalen's most established tavern, run by the Baardson family for two generations.
Here, the heavy scent of smoke, fermented brews, and tar, hits visitors like a battle horn, and the air hums pleasantly with low murmur and laughter, punctuated by the occasional clatter of tankards.
A worn painting of the ISA Verrix, which carried the first 650 Scandinavians who settled on Raana, breaks the illusion of the otherwise medievalesque atmosphere, even if the motif is also a relic from a bygone era.
Opening Hours
The Ale Barrel opens at noon, and closes it doors at midnight.
Feasting
You can participate in the following at the tavern, and gain Reputation:
- Socialize (2 hours) - may gain you Charisma, or +1 Reputation (on a successful Charisma roll).
- Drink (zero time, $6) - very strong; you will get wasted.
- Throw Knives (30 minutes) - winning will gain you +1 Reputation; uses your Ranged skill.
- Play Hnefatafl (2 hours) - for fun, or with bets of $50, $250, and $1,000. Playing for money has a 6% chance of gaining you +1 Gambling skill (cap: 80), and winning gains you +1 Reputation.
You can "feast" here once a day. Each feast session can include any the above elements, once each only. So you can only play one game of hrnefatafl per day, and if you leave a feast without throwing knives, you can't return to throw knives later that day.
Reputation
Your reputation at The Alebarrel is shown in the central panel, along with your total wins at knife-throwing and hrnefatafl. You can gain up to three reputation points per feast, and maximum is 150. Ranks are as follows:
| 0 - 2 | Unfamiliar |
| 3 - 6 | Commoner |
| 7 - 14 | Familiar |
| 15 - 49 | Respected |
| 50 - 79 | Well-known |
| 80 - 99 | Renowned |
