Books are available for purchase in several shops or discovery elsewhere, that can improve your Skills and Attributes once read. Once obtained, they can be accessed via Training > Advanced Training. A book's contents can be digested in a few days of dedicated effort (usually ten three-hour sessions, but usually fewer if you have high Intelligence or drink coffee to stay focused; see below).
- Intelligence 70+ increases the rate at which you read most books, by +25% to +150% depending on the book (commonly +100%).
- Drinking coffee while you read also increases the rate at which you complete books, by +20% to +150% depending on the book (commonly +30%).
- The "Brainy" trait usually increases the primary skill or attribute gains you will achieve from completing most books (by +1, +2 or +3).
Other benefits:
- Owning relevant books increases the chance of you successfully Homeschooling NPCs.
- Each book you read will subsequently gain you Influence daily; Ikaanans are impressed by your education! (Each tome completed will add 1 or more points to the Titles element of your daily Influence calculation, shown on the Influence report of the Economy & Influence / Household Overview section. Note that "Titles" here does not just refer to book titles!)
